The Open Space Committee, working with a group of Plymouth citizens who formed a Right to Farm Steering Committee, is sponsoring two Articles for Fall Town Meeting. Article 21 would create a Right to Farm by-law; Article 22, an Agricultural Committee. The Steering Committee has met with federal and state agencies, local farmers, community groups, town boards, committees and department heads and has received enthusiastic support from all quarters as well as helpful suggestions. The Open Space Committee and Steering Committee together have gone before the Plymouth Board of Selectmen, the Planning Board and the Finance and Advisory Committee, who all voted to support both Articles at Town Meeting on October 26. The Right to Farm By-law and the establishment of an Agricultural Committee have already been adopted in many Massachusetts towns. The by-law will not cost the taxpayer or the town, will not encroach on any citizen’s rights and is, in effect, simply a reinforcement of what is already a law in Massachusetts and part of our state constitution.
